All the students registered at Madhrasathul Ifthithaah prior to 1st September 1945 were boys and men due to the restriction on women’s education in the Maldives. However, when the permission was granted, Ifthithaah was the first school in the entire nation to teach women. The Founder Principal of the school was Sheik Abdulla Fahmy, who later served as the Minister of Education and Chief justice for the Maldives.
Although Ifthithaah was started as government school it has gone through changes of ownership 6 times in its existence. Finally it regained the status of government school on 30th March 1996. For the first time, when the Ministry of Education granted autonomous status to five schools in 1998, Ifthithaah was one among them.
